Okay babes, heads up if you’ve got a court date coming up in Newport, there may be some changes. According to an article put out by WMTW, the District Court is now closed right now because of some mold issues.

As the article states, they are working on getting it fixed. But in the meantime, all the in-person court cases and the clerk's office have been moved to 78 Exchange Street at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.

There isn't much more information available right now other than they’re trying to take care of the mold issues at the courthouse.

The Judicial Branch State Court Administrator, Amy Quinlan says,

"We are working with the owner of the building to determine the extent of the problem and make a plan for remediation, We are closing the building until we find a solution to the problem."

Mold can be tricky to deal with since it can come from a variety of sources, and it can sometimes be more widespread than it appears at first. They’re working on it, but it’s unclear exactly how big the problem is at the moment.

As per New York State Department of Health,

"Allergy and irritation are the most common symptoms of mold exposure. Less common effects of mold exposure include infections and illness. Serious infections from molds are relatively rare and occur mainly in people with severely suppressed immune systems. Illness has been reported from workplace exposures to mold.:

The article states that if you did have a hearing that was set for Newport, you may get rescheduled, but if it is a remote hearing over Zoom or phone, that will still take place as planned.

Just make sure to use the same information that was given to connect.

If you are in need of mailing anything to Newport, it's still going to the same address, 12 Water Street and don't worry, the phone number is also still the same: 207-368-5778.
