
Warning: CMP Alerts Maine Residents About Door-to-Door Scammer
With the cold weather arriving, we don't need to stress out about scammers, especially when there are so many scammers everywhere else.
I don't want anyone to knock on my door that has a bad agenda, but according to FOX23, that it exactly what is happening.
If a person come's a knocking on your day, and they claim to be from Central Maine Power, it might be time to think twice.

According to CMP, there’s been a recent surge in calls about scammers going door-to-door, pretending to be CMP workers.
What's the scam?
According to CMP, the point of this charade is to get their hands on your personal data and even your money.
How do you tell if someone's the real deal or not?
So, how do you tell if someone’s the real deal or just another con artist? Well first off, please know that CMP’s got your back.

As per the article, if anyone is at your door claiming to be working for CMP, they would be wearing a CMP badge, drive a CMP vehicle with the companies logo clearly marked on the side, and won't ever ask for account details at your door.
That’s a big red flag if someone is demanding info right then and there.
CMP’s spokesperson, Cristina Wittman, let's us know that,
“If you ever feel uncomfortable in any situation, feel free to hang up the phone, feel free to close the door, feel free not to reply to an email, and always call our customer service representatives.”

Always remember, you can call CMP to really find out if something needs to be checked on in your area.

And it's not only door-to-door scammers that you have to look out for because sometimes the scammers are using phone numbers that look like they are from CMP.
They go to great lengths to trick people. If this happens, make sure not to panic, just hang up, close the door and call CMP directly.
Just make sure you are always cautiously aware of which business people are actually representing.
Unfortunately you cannot trust everyone, especially nowadays. I'd also suggest passing this information on to your family members and friends. .
