Bear on the Move: Sightings Spotted Around Lewiston, Maine
Call your cats inside tonight because we have a visitor in the city of Lewiston, and I assume he wouldn't just cuddle with your outdoor pets.
The Lewiston Police Department posted a photo on Facebook urging folks to be careful after a bear was caught on a someone's home surveillance camera overnight in the Pettengill/Central/Wellman neighborhood.
The bear appears to be a black bear to me, but it could also be brown since the security camera footage is in black and white.
The bear has been seen roaming through the area and has prompted local authorities to send an important reminder to locals to take precautions.
Now, obviously we are not completely shocked by this because we do live in a bear-populated state, however, to have this guy seen in the city, is a little scary. We can assume that he is hungry, and that is why he is in a more populated area.

Police are telling locals to make sure to secure their garbage and recyclables because this will attract bears searching for an easy meal. Also, residents are being asked to stop leaving out bird feeders or pet food, both of those items can lure a bear right into the yard.
While it is very exciting to see bears in person, far away it is unnerving knowing they are roaming in your neighborhood. Bears can become very dangerous when they are in human areas with food.
Lewiston PD is monitoring the situation closely and asks residents to remain vigilant and cautious.
If you see the bear, please contact local PD immediately and do not approach it. Stay safe, Lewiston!
