The final countdown is on for the total solar eclipse on April 8.

Some places, like Houlton, have been planning for this event for over a year.  The small Aroostook County town will be hosting an entire week of events.  There will be festivals, live music, and viewing parties.

Other places along the path of totality have a variety of events planned.  In some places, school will be closed on that day.  In other places, first responders will be on high alert in case the sudden darkness causes some kind of calamity.  Some ski resorts are even getting in on the action.

Wildcat Mountain, located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, will be hosting a solar eclipse party.  In addition to skiing some of the best terrain in New England, visitors will have the opportunity to eat a BBQ lunch and have a few drinks in the pub.

During the April 8 eclipse, the mountain will be in 98% totality.  That means the mountain will be plunged into almost complete darkness for several minutes!

The Facebook event page says:

Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime skiing and riding experience, plus a pop-up BBQ and Bar that's bound to eclipse all your expectations!

For safety purposes, the lifts will be shut down for a few minutes during the height of the eclipse.

Located across the road from Mount Washington, people have been skiing Wildcat Mountain for nearly a century.  The first trail was cut in 1933, but the mountain did not really take off until the 1960s.

The mountain boasts 2,100 feet of vertical terrain and some of the best scenery in New England.

Additionally, because of the mountain’s elevation, it typically has a much longer season than other New England mountains.

You can learn more about the mountain from the resort’s website.
