The Waterville Police Department is looking for the public's help in located a stolen pickup truck.

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, at about 3 AM on Saturday (November 18), a stolen Toyota pickup truck was located in the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store on Kennedy Memorial Drive.

When Officer Josh Medeiros approached the vehicle, a male subject was standing outside the vehicle.  A female, who appeared to be sleeping or passed out, was in the passenger seat.

When Officer Medeiros made contact with the suspect, a fight ensued.  Officer Medeiros was struck several times and the suspect fled the scene in the truck.  Officer Medeiros received significant injuries, including a broken bone and concussion. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The post goes on to say:

The Waterville Police Department is asking for help identifying the suspect in the attached photos. The suspect is described as 5’11” to 6’1”, approximately 220 pounds, with mid-length red hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a black and white flannel, and a baseball hat.

The stolen Toyota was found abandoned in Fairfield. At this point, it appears that the people have abandoned the Toyota pickup and are now likely in a stolen 2003 Ford F-250.  The vehicle is blue in color and has a Maine plate number of 1444ZF.

If you have any information that can help police, you should call 911.  Police are saying that, over concerns the suspect may become violent, you should NOT approach the person.

Our thoughts are with Officer Medeiros and his family.  We hope he makes a quick recovery.
