Teen Swimmer Dies at Central Maine Swimming Hole
While we are fortunate to have so many great swimming spots in Maine, this story should serve as a reminder that we should always use caution when swimming in Maine's lakes, ponds, rivers, and swimming holes.
A 15-year-old swimmer has died at a popular Hallowell, Maine swimming spot.
According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, the teenage boy had gone swimming with some friends at the 'Old Quarry' in Hallowell. The boy reportedly jumped off a cliff at the quarry, diving into the water. However, he did not surface.
After a search of the water, first responders were able to recover the teen's body.
The name of the deceased has not been released.

Multiple agencies, including the Maine Warden Service, were involved in the attempted rescue and recovery.
Our thoughts go out to all those involved in this tragic incident.
Due to its remoteness and the lack of a lifeguard, authorities say they discourage swimming at the 'Old Quarry'.

Before they dive in, make sure your teen knows about the basics of swimming safety. Swimming is a blast, but it can turn serious quick if they’re not paying attention. Always swim with a buddy, let someone know where you are swimming, stay where a lifeguard can see you (when present), and skip the risky stunts.
