One of the most popular bank chains in New England has announced plans to close more than three dozen locations within the next few weeks.

According to an article on the WMTW website, TD Bank, which is based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, has announced plans to close 38 locations in the next year.  The article explains that four of those locations are in Maine.

The Maine locations slated for closure include 62 West Main St. in Fort Kent, 112 Main Street in Fairfield, the North Street location in Houlton, and the Main Street location in Gorham.

A statement from TD Bank said:

As we evaluate how customers interact with us and the channels they use, this includes examining our physical store network and looking for opportunities to best serve our customers through an optimal mix of convenient TD Bank locations and digital banking products and services

According to WCSH 6, the affected Maine locations will close on June 5th.

With over 1,100 locations, TD Bank is the 10th largest bank in the country.  Founded as Portland Savings Bank in Portland, Maine, in 1852, the bank has been serving Mainers for generations.

Even though some of the bank's locations are closing, the bank is expanding in other places.   The WCSH 6 article explains that TD Bank recently opened three new branches: Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, New York, Jerome Avenue in the Bronx, New York and Nubian Square in Boston, Massachusetts.

Personally, I am bummed out by the closure of these locations.  In addition to this bank being my personal bank, I hate the idea of people losing their jobs.  Hopefully, anyone who lost their job as a result of these closures will quickly find a new place to work.
