Most people realize that McDonald's started out as a family-owned burger place in the 1950s.

Founded by brothers who had a knack for creating systems that ensured their food was always of a high quality and always served fast, the company was purchased by Ray Kroc who turned the business into the mega-corporation that it is today.

While it started out as a lunch and dinner place, in the 1970s, the company began to offer breakfast options.

Some of these breakfast items, like the Egg McMuffin, have become iconic.  Some of the newer options have quickly become loved by fans of the chains.

One of these is the McGriddle.

For those who do not know, a McGriddle is a sandwich that has pre-syruped pancakes (griddle cakes) as buns.  Typical fillings include sausage, bacon, egg, and cheese.

These are great the way they are, but it looks like we may soon see the return of a very 'Maine' variety of these tasty breakfast items.

According to a recent article published by AOL, the company is testing blueberry McGriddles.  These will be similar to the normal McGriddles, but the 'buns' will be infused with blueberries.

Could they get any more 'Maine' than that?

The article explains that this is not the first time McDonald's has toyed with this idea.  The fast-food giant first started testing them out in 2019.

Back then, a rep for the company said:

The Blueberry McGriddles breakfast sandwich will satisfy both the sweet and savory senses. The flavors from the real blueberries balanced with the sweet taste of maple reminds me of the blueberry pancakes my mother used to make for us growing up. Imagine that combined with your choice of sizzling breakfast sausage or thick-cut bacon nestled under a creamy slice of American cheese and fluffy egg.

In 2019, the breakfast item never made it past the testing phase.  This led to many people assuming we'd never see a wide roll-out.  However, we have to remember that a certain incident in early 2020 caused a big upheaval in the way we live our lives.  Could that have had something to do with the decision to not roll them out nationwide?

We are all hoping that, this time, we see them rolled out everywhere.
