Central Maine will get a taste of the Highlands of Scotland this August.

According to an article on the KJ website, the Windsor Fairgrounds will host the Maine Highland Games and Scottish Festival.

The Maine Highland Games & Scottish Festival

The event, which features the Scottish Heavy Athletics Men's World Championship.

For years, the event had been held each August at Brunswick's Thomas Point Beach Campground.  Recently, the property was sold and the new owners have declined to host the event in 2025.

The festival, which will run from August 16th through August 17th, features Scottish food, beverages, music, and a chance to find out more about your Scottish heritage.

One of the biggest things to happen at this year's event is the world championship of the Scottish Heavy Athletics.  Because it is the world championships some of the world's best competitors in events like the caber toss (that's the 'telephone pole' one), stone putting, and the hammer throw will be competing in Windsor.

The Windsor Fairgrounds are the perfect place to host such an event.  The fairgrounds feature 275 acres of land, several permanent buildings, and plenty of space for parking and camping.

The iconic Windsor Fair will take place a few weeks following the Maine Highland Games.
