Was the Federal Bureau of Investigation really conducting an operation in the Bangor area earlier this week?

Yes!

According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, federal investigators were active at a home on Essex Street Wednesday as the FBI confirmed it was carrying out a court-approved operation at the property.

The activity was reported at 831 Essex St., where a WCSH 6 news crew observed multiple sheriff’s vehicles along with several unmarked law enforcement units parked outside the residence. Agents at the scene identified themselves as members of the FBI and said the investigation remains active, though they did not disclose what prompted the operation.

In a statement, the FBI said agents were conducting activity authorized by the court but declined to release additional details about the investigation.

By Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement personnel appeared to be wrapping up operations at the property. Authorities have not released any further information.

While we don't often think about the FBI operating in Maine, it does happen.  Actually, it seems like it has become increasingly common over the last decade.
