Well Known Maine Harbor Named One of the Best Harbors in the USA

For centuries, people have been vacationing in Maine.

They have been attracted to our state for a variety of reasons, including our quaint small towns, our dense forests, and our majestic wildlife.

However, for many people, the main reason they choose to visit Maine is our coastline.

Maine’s coastline is where beauty meets adventure.  In just a few minutes you can go from walking a sandy beach to exploring shops in a oceanside town. There’s something magical about spotting a lighthouse in the distance or stumbling on a hidden beach you didn’t even know existed. Whether you’re sailing, hiking, tide pooling, or just chasing down the next perfect lobster roll, the coast of Maine never stops surprising you.

Given all there is to love about our coastline, it should not be a big surprise that one of our most popular harbors was just named one of the best harbors in the United States.

Boothbay Harbor, Maine

According to the US Harbors website, Boothbay Harbor came in tenth place on their annual list of the best harbors in America.

Located in Midcoast Maine, Boothbay Harbor is more than just a place to anchor your boat and get some fuel.  It is a tourist destination that is filled with cool shops, amazing restaurants, nightlife, and hotels.

While it is a convenient place for boaters to stop on their cruises up and down the coastline, many of the area's visitors come via car.  During the height of tourist seasons, you will find it hard to find a parking space.  Fortunately, the town is very walkable.

Of Boothbay Harbor, the US Harbors website said, in part:

The harbor is spacious and well sheltered, and has good holding ground. The town of Boothbay Harbor is bustling with activity during peak summer months, but remains remarkably quiet in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall and downright sleepy in the wintertime. During July and August Boothbay Harbor is not the spot to steer to for a tranquil night on the hook, but if you are looking for the quintessential Maine resort community, you need look no further.
