Here's your chance to experience what life was like in Central Maine during the 1700s.

Augusta's Old Fort Western will be hosting another 'tavern night' on Saturday, September 21st.

According to a Facebook event posting, the event will recreate the days when the fort was operated as the S & W Howard Store & Tavern.

Attendees of the event will be given 1 shilling and 12 pence.  They'll be able to use that money to purchase food, beverages, and to participate in games.

Of course, the food and beverages will be appropriate for the period.  The tavern menu will include pork stew, vegetarian potato & leek soup, cheese, bread, sweetmeats, and seasonal fruits.

The tavern will serve various alcoholic beverages including pale ale, hard cider, mead, and port.  You'll also be able to purchase Old Salem Smash, a mixture of rum, sugar, water, and mint.  Non-alcoholic drinks will include lemonade and cider.

As a way to remember the night, the fort will be selling special mugs.

The event posting explains:

Patrons can purchase one-of-a-kind S & W Howard Store & Tavern Tankards ($25.00). These are unique and specifically hand-made by the former Sprinkle Pottery in Texas for Fort Western and reflect archaeological examples in the Fort Western Archaeological Collection. Stephan Sprinkle retired at the end of last year, so there will be no more once these tankards are gone.

Tickets for the event will be $50 per person or $90 per couple. You can get more details about the event by calling 207.626.2385.  You can also get details by visiting the Old Fort Western website.
