If you have spent any time in downtown Waterville in the last year, you have no doubt noticed the considerable amount of construction on Main Street and Front Street.  At one point, Main Street was so torn up that it resembled some kind of post apocalyptic wasteland.

Last month, just as the work was coming to an end, it was determined that there was insufficient drainage.  This added an extra week or so to the project.

But, finally, all of that construction is now behind us!.  And, as of late Thursday night, the traffic pattern has changed.  After being "one way" for years, traffic on Front Street and Main Street is now "two way".

The following graphic from the Maine DOT does a great job of showing how it has changed.

According to an article in the KJ, as of Friday morning, there really had been no issues with the new traffic pattern.

That being said, there were cones to help guide people and law enforcement on hand just in case.

The article does note one of the things you want to keep in mind as you walk through downtown, you are now going to want to make sure you look both ways before crossing the street.  Personally, I always look both ways, even when on a one way street.  You never know when someone makes a wrong turn and ends up going the wrong way.  Sure, it does not happen very often, but it does happen.
