What do sharks and mayonnaise have in common?

Those are the things AJ and I are afraid of... to the point of being ridiculous.

AJ's hatred of mayonnaise has become an irrational fear, especially after I tried to force feed it to him on April Fool's Day. It wasn't really mayo; it was vanilla pudding. His reaction was priceless... and silly.

I, on the other hand, am so afraid of sharks that when I go to the beach, I won't go into the water past my ankles. Think about all the fun I'm missing out on. Even the picture of the shark above sends shivers down my spine.

So, let me put on my counseling hat and get serious about irrational fears. After all, I have a masters degree in mental health counseling. I might as well use it sometimes. The reason these phobias are irrational is because they only make sense to the person who is afraid, and under normal circumstances the thing or situation of which they are fearful is not dangerous or unlikely to happen. Take my fear of sharks. I saw the movie "Jaws" when I was a little girl and wouldn't take a bath for many weeks after seeing it, because I was afraid that a shark would eat me in the tub. I was a very stinky child.

Celebrities have these irrational fears, as well. They're human, after all. People Magazine put together a list of these strange phobias which might surprise and amuse you.

Sometimes, it helps a phobic person to cope, when they hear about other people's fears, so here we go:

Tyra Banks: Dolphins
Nicole Kidman: Butterflies
Danielle Jonas: Balloons
Liam Payne of One Direction: Spoons
Scarlett Johansson: Birds
Katie Holmes: Raccoons
Matthew McConaughey: Revolving Doors
Khloe Kardashian: Belly buttons
Rita Ora: Toilets
Christina Ricci: House plants
