
Insurance Companies to Mail Rebate Checks to Thousands of Mainers
Nearly 20,000 Mainers will receive rebate money from insurance companies The Portland Press Herald is reporting. The average refund is $149.
The daily newspaper reported the refunds are part of the Affordable Care Act. Checks will be mailed August 1 for 2013 services. The Affordable Care Act requires insurance companies to spend 80 to 85% of premiums on medical care. Rebates must be sent to consumers, if that number isn't met. Consumers nationwide will save $330 million in refunds, with 6.8 million consumers due to receive an average refund benefit of $80 per family.
