A new hotel in Bar Harbor is getting some serious love from an iconic magazine.

Travel + Leisure has named Bar Harbor's Salt Cottages one of the best 100 new hotels in the entire world. The beautiful roadside cottages in the heart of Maine's most popular tourist spot joins a list that includes resorts from some of the largest cities and amazing beaches across the entire globe. That is some seriously good publicity for this pretty Maine inn.

Salt Cottages is basically a roadside inn on steroids. It still has all the charm of an old Maine coastal motor-inn, but with all the amenities one would want in a state-of-the-art inn. The villas have a wonderful beach theme, with clean architecture and plenty of space.

Here is a little of why Travel + Leasure included the Salt Cottages on its best new hotel list.

There are individual cottages as well as guest rooms in a main house, plus communal spaces like Picnic, an Americana snack bar with a roaring fire and spectacular views of Frenchman Bay. After hiking in Acadia National Park or exploring downtown Bar Harbor, take a swim in the heated pool or roast marshmallows by the outdoor firepit.

Obviously, the location is a huge plus for the Salt Cottages. It's right on the coast, and just minutes from downtown Bar Harbor. And, as the article points out, there's this little park called Acadia just down the road.

It's always great to see Maine represented in an article like this. "The little state that could" always seems to hold its own. However, it should be to no surprise, considering places like The Salt Cottages continue to push Maine to be the best it can be.

LOOK: See America's 50 Best Beach Towns

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
