It's the annual tradition that is common among families everywhere - you go out and buy a Christmas tree, you keep it up in your living room for a month or two, then you throw it out. Well this year, I decided to do something a little different.

It was only recently that I found out that goats LOVE to snack on Christmas trees. And it turns out that they're pretty healthy for them too. Well I wasn't all that thrilled about the idea of strapping that tree to the top of my car twice in one year. But someone convinced me otherwise.

My daughter, Ari, is almost 12. She loves animals, and she cares deeply about the environment. When she heard that we could bring our tree to Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook, she was all about it. And really, who am I to tell her, "no, we're not going to go feed adorable goats and help the environment"?

Dropping off our tree for the goats was well worth the time and effort. And now, we have a new twist on our annual tradition!
