Here’s What Spring Point Lighthouse Looks Like From The Inside
Yesterday was Open Lighthouse Day, an opportunity to step into more than 20 lighthouses in Maine. Many of the lighthouses participating aren't normally open to the public, so this is certainly a special occasion!
I've taken my daughters to Spring Point Lighthouse many times. We would walk up the breakwater to the lighthouse, but never actually got a look inside...until now.
Spring Point Lighthouse was built in 1897, but until the breakwater was built in 1950, the only way to get to it was via paddle boat. In the early days, it was staffed 24/7 by two people. Imagine what it would be like to have that job!
We had such a great time on this tour, which is presented by the Maine Office of Tourism, American Lighthouse Foundation, and U.S. Coast Guard. If you missed it this year, definitely plan to check it out next year!
