This weekend we begin the dissent into months of darkness as we have to still set the clocks back one hour on Sunday morning.

There are so many reasons given why we used to do it, for the farmers, because of World War One, to save energy. That last one gets me because how are we saving energy when we have to turn on all the lights an hour earlier? I understand that people who get up before the sun have to turn on lights as well but in Spring and Fall the difference in daylight is less than one hour. So, the rationale was that Daylight Saving Time saves energy for lighting in all seasons of the year, but it saves least during the four darkest months of winter when the dark creeps in early afternoon and we all have to turn lights on at 4pm.

But why are we still setting the clocks back and forth in 2018?  A study reported by WebExhibits.org says some say that the primary reason that Daylight Saving Time is a part of many societies is simply because people like to enjoy long summer evenings, and that reasons such as energy conservation are merely rationalizations.

Personally, I'd rather have more light in the evenings of the cold months.

There has been plenty of talk about doing away with Daylight Saving Time and I for one would be the first to say good riddance to 4 months of darkness...but I guess that's just me. Anyway, here's a funny video about having to deal with DST, except in Arizona..
