Just how happy are New England states, compared to the rest of the country? A new study by WalletHub gives us some insight, and breaks it down for us in several different categories. And New England did...OK.

The study analyzed a variety of internal and external factors. The main categories states were ranked on included emotional and physical well being, work environment, and community and environment. First, let's see who did the best:

1 - Hawaii

2 - Utah

3 - Minnesota

4 - California

5 - New Jersey

Notice there are no New England states in the top five. I think that's pretty interesting, considering that many other studies I've seen rank New England states very high in quality of life and income, and very low in things like crime rate. Here's how the New England states did:

Maine - 38

New Hampshire - 22

Vermont - 20

Massachusetts - 7

Connecticut - 10

Rhode Island - 33

I'm pretty surprised that Maine is actually in the bottom half. And New Hampshire and Vermont are pretty much middle of the pack.
