Group Wants to Convert Cruise Ship into Homeless Shelter in Portland
Now here's an example of some outside the box thinking - a non-profit group wants to permanently dock a cruise ship in Portland Harbor, and convert it into a homeless shelter.
According to Bangor Daily News, Memory Works is applying for a grant from the city to explore the idea. It could make sense for the city, considering that a cruise ship could hold about 800 passengers, and cost as low as $5 million. Memory Works is offering a presentation open to the public at Portland City Hall tomorrow at 1pm.
It's an interesting idea for sure. Do you think it could work? Let us know, with a comment on the Facebook post!
