If you are like me and truly and deeply believe that dessert is a sacred moment of joy, then I have to share this Maine gem with you.

Sitting pretty in the Old Port at 172 Middle Street is the sweetest spot called Gross Confection Bar.

This spot is the brainchild of pastry extraordinaire Brant Dadaleres.

Inside Portland’s Most Deliciously Dramatic Dessert Bar

According to their website, Brant grew up witnessing his grandma create yummy dishes like doughnuts.

Inspired by that and wanting to create sweet dishes of his own, he ended up training at some of the fanciest kitchens and turned his desserts into dreams for your taste buds.

The vibe is unmatchable with arched brick rooms and high wooden beams. It’s in the 1883 John Calvin Stevens building. It’s a whole lot of rustic elegance.

Here’s what on the menu at Gross Confection Bar!

I’ve got the menu and the reason you’ll want to try it all. They rotate what they offer frequently, but there are some star dishes that stand out to me.

Instagram worthy you could say.

  • Tahitian Vanilla Bean Custard — creamy + richness + vanilla surprises= bliss. There's snickerdoodle crumb and dark chocolate sorbet.
  • Blueberry Plum Upside Down Cake— this is perfect for the fall, giving you that sweet comfort in a blueberry upside down cake.
  • Gross Confection Mess — rich and delicious fudge cake and chocolate mousse, it's perfect for anyone who likes to believe that chocolate solves 99% of your problems.
  • Cookies and Cremeux– if fudge and cookies had a baby, this would be it.

Sometimes you just need to eat dessert.

What sets Gross Confection Bar apart?

They experiment and they listen to what their patrons enjoy. It’s almost like a sugar art gallery.
