Get Ready For Pothole Season In Northern New England
Here's something that Northern New Englanders love to complain about: potholes.
They can be a pretty big problem on the roads of Maine and New Hampshire. And with massive changes in temperature just ahead, the problem will only get worse in the near future.
According to WGME, there have been 84 reported pothole complaints in Portland since September. Just 9 of them are still a problem as of January 19th, so it sounds like Public Works officials have done a pretty good job keeping up with them so far.
But winter is far from over. So potholes will continue to pop up, as water seeps beneath the surface, and then freezes and expands, causing the pavement to lift up and crack.
