Flames broke out on the site of the under construction Pentucket Regional Middle & High School in West Newbury on Sunday afternoon for the second time in three days.

Smoke once again was spotted coming from the roof in the rear of the building on Main Street around 3:45 p.m., according to West Chief Michael Dwyer.

The fire eventually went to two alarms and was put out quickly, the chief said.

Dwyer said the construction management firm will determine the extent of damages.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the West Newbury Fire Department, the West Newbury Police Department and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Friday's fire which initially sent thick black smoke into the air was not considered suspicious by Dwyer.

According to the project website the building should be complete in the spring and summer of 2022 with grads 7-12 scheduled to move into the new building in the fall of 2022.
