Ed Sheeran Gears Up To Fight In Instagram Teaser Amid Twitter Backlash Over Interview
Ed Sheeran is clearly thrilled to be back in the music ring... even if it comes with a few social media conflicts.
The pop singer-songwriter shared a handful of cryptic teasers on his social media on Friday (January 27). In one image shared on Instagram, the musician sits in front of boxing posters, while he cradles his head in his wrapped hands.
"Monday… ÷," he captioned the photo, nodding to his new album, Divide, out March 3.
In another teaser, a video clip posted on Twitter, Sheeran seems to be gearing up for a boxing match, or more likely, a new music video.
Meanwhile, the artist is at the center of an #EdSheeranIsOverParty on Twitter today (Saturday, January 28) after comments he made during an interview with British GQ made the rounds.
Some fans are upset after Sheeran claimed that "Adele is the one person who’s sold more records than [him] in the past ten years."
"She’s the only person I need to sell more records than. That’s a big f---ing feat because her last album sold 20 million," the singer told GQ, adding that he "wants to be the biggest male artist in the world."
His perspective on his similarities to Taylor Swift ("There’s an underdog element to it. Taylor was never the popular kid in school. I was never the popular kid in school") also drew the ire of Swift fans who seemed to take the comments out of context, with many calling the British artist "arrogant."
Others on Stan Twitter, however, stood up for Sheeran, claiming his comments came not from a place of arrogance but from a place of confidence, especially for an artist who once struggled to break through.
As for Sheeran's stance? The singer-songwriter slammed the controversy on Twitter, writing, "You should never hide your goals or ambitions."
