Perhaps I am the only person in Maine who didn't know this important fact about tax deadlines in the Pine Tree State. Residents have until Wednesday, April 17, 2019, to file not only their state tax on Form 1040ME, but also their federal tax returns. We were talking about taxes being due next Monday on the radio this morning, when a listener told us Mainers had two extra days to file because of Patriot's Day, which is an official holiday in Maine on April 15th. Then, Emancipation Day falls on April 16th in Washington, D.C. The same applies for Massachusetts residents. I confirmed this information on Yahoo Finance.

If you live in New Hampshire, you don't get any extra time. You have to file on Monday, April 15th.

I guess my next question to research is why the rest of New England does not recognize Patriot's Day, since it commemorates battles of the Revolutionary War.

Anyway, I thought I would share what I learned with other people "from away." I can't be the only person who does not know this. There may even be some Mainers who have lived here their entire lives and aren't aware of the tax deadlines.
