It’s happened to all of us, we are wandering the snack aisle at Hannaford and spot something that’s a little out of the ordinary. A snack that is unexpected.

It’s right near the popcorn and Pringles and you stop to take a look. Pickle Balls. Yes, you read that right, Dill Pickle Balls to be exact and they are little round, tangy balls that taste like a dill pickle in bite size form.

Think of it as the lovechild of a classic pickle and a cheese ball, minus the cheese, plus a buttload of confusion.
And people are actually eating them. Maybe it’s a novelty or maybe you really have been craving a dill pickle crunchy ball.

Bite-Sized Dill Pickles: Crunchy, Tangy, and Totally Unexpected

According to a Reddit thread, the evolution of bizarre flavored snacks came to fruition due to demand. It’s us, we are the reasons snacks like pickle balls are hitting the shelves.

This means, it's our fault. We, the consumers are the reason for all of these bizarre flavored snacks.

One Redditor says, “Demands from consumers change. The younger generations look for what’s new, and aren’t happy with the same old flavors. Also, there’s a lot more money available to food startups than in previous years. These startups typically push the boundaries of innovation, and some get purchased by the larger corporations & influence them."

Food scientists are always busy. There’s a lot more to our roles than just new product innovations, so those are just a portion of our work load”

So, what will they think of next?
