Did You Know That Earmuffs Were Invented In Maine?
Here's another reason for Mainers to be proud!
Earmuffs, the fashionable and functional winter accessory, were invented in Farmington, Maine 144 years ago!
According to Wikipedia, Chester Greenwood, from Farmington Maine, came up with the idea of them at just 15 years old. While ice skating, he asked his grandmother to sew tufts of fur between loops of wire.
Greenwood went on to patent several other inventions...including a tea kettle, a rake, and several other items.
The state of Maine celebrates Chester Greenwood Day every December 21st.
