After more than a decade of pumpkin art, pumpkin chunking, pumpkin dropping, and pumpkin racing, the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta has been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.

The festival which started out as a brainchild and labor of love by some locals grew to a nationally loved event bringing tourists from all over to the small quaint town of Damariscotta for some autumn fun.

In recent years, the event was even featured on The Nightly News on NBC.

In their statement released May 4, The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta Committee thanked all those who helped make the event over the years from the pumpkin growers to the artists, sponsors, and everyone in between.

As someone from the Damariscotta area who has watched the event grow over the years and participated in the regatta twice, this is certainly heartbreaking. From the hit to the local economy to the loss of a truly fun event Damariscotta will definitely feel an empty space this October.

Plans for the event are already being made for October 9th through the 11th in 2021.
