The fixed COVID-19 testing center at the Mall at Fox Run in Newington is closed for a second day, indirectly because of this week's bitter cold weather.

After being closed on Tuesday due to the cold and wind, the center lost power on Wednesday. The center's generator failed because of subzero temperatures Tuesday night, leaving the outdoor facility powerless.

The center was scheduled to close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and staff are hopeful that repairs to the generator will allow the center to reopen on Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

Testing is available at many indoor sites including pharmacies and healthcare facilities.

Free at home PCR tests are also available from the state via the DHHS website.
