There's a new athletic trend hitting Maine's mid-coast...."Fitness Boxing". Of course we are all familiar with traditional boxing and more recently mixed martial arts has spouted up in many places but, what exactly is "fitness boxing"?
According to the website for RisingTide Boxing Gym, a new fitness gym to open last month in Thomaston. It's a interesting take on the sport of boxing, without being competitive or sparring. So kind of the skill work of boxing is learned without getting hit or hitting someone else.
At RisingTide Boxing Gym, everyone is encouraged to begin with an intro to boxing, including learning and practicing different punches, learning proper stances and body movements.
Once a person has the basics down, you are ready for a typical 60 minute boxing workout class where you work on drills and bag work, target mitts and glove punches, and also movement combos with a partner.
It's great to learn proper boxing techniques in a high energy workout that can benefit young and old, novice and experienced as well.
