Will Avril Lavigne be making her long-awaited comeback to music this year?

A new photo shared recently by the "I'm With You" artist indicates the possibility of new tunes hitting our eardrums in the near future.

Last night (February 24), Lavigne afforded her fans an intimate glimpse into her world when she posted a black-and-white image of herself behind the mic doing vocal sessions at her home studio, conceivably recording new material for her forthcoming project, the eight-time Grammy-nominated singer's first in approximately five years.

"Late night studio vocal session," the 33-year-old artist tweeted, along with black hearts and the hashtags #myhome and #musicismydrug to commemorate her new undertaking.

Lavigne delivered her last music venture in November 2013, a self-titled album that was met with generally favorable responses from her critics. Her fifth and most recent effort, Avril Lavigne, produced feel-good singles like "Here's to Never Growing Up" and "Rock n Roll," and became the Canadian musician's fifth consecutive record to reach top-five credit on the Billboard 200.

Though years later, in April 2015, the "Complicated" star would detail in an interview with People magazine how she was diagnosed with Lyme disease after being infected from a tick bite. Lavigne described that the illness had her experiencing spells of fatigue, made eating difficult, and kept her bedridden for five months.

In September 2015, mere months after recounting her health crisis, Lavigne would announce her separation from Nickelback crooner Chad Kroeger on Instagram. Despite the breakup, she assured her fans, "We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other."

Since then, the "Sk8er Boi" vocalist has made many promises of a new album, one such endeavor was initially destined for release in 2017, though Lavigne remained mum on the subject.

Still, fans needn't count out their fave just yet.

In a recent interview with Billboard this year, the punk-pop rocker hinted that her next project would arrive sometime this year, in which she described the new record as a "true emotional journey" that would be "personal, dear, intimate, dramatic, raw, powerful, strong and unexpected."
