Is Arya Stark Getting a ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff?
**WARNING SPOILERS**
As Game of Thrones wrapped up the main characters' storylines during its polarizing finale, one particular person's journey didn't seem to be over. When it was revealed that Arya Stark planned to venture West and see what laid beyond the maps of Westeros, fans thought it was setting up a spinoff series. We already know HBO has at least one prequel in the works, so does the network also plan on picking up where the current story ended? According to HBO programming president Casey Bloys, the answer is a hard no.
While he admitted during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the network would be shooting its first spinoff pilot this June, with two more successors in the works, none of the stories involved Maisie Williams' beloved character.
"Nope, nope, nope. No," he said when asked about the possibility. "Part of it is, I do want this show—this Game of Thrones, Dan and David's show—to be its own thing. I don't want to take characters from this world that they did beautifully and put them off into another world with someone else creating it. I want to let it be the artistic piece they've got. That's one of the reasons why I'm not trying to do the same show over. George has a massive, massive world; there are so many ways in. That's why we're trying to do things that feel distinct—and to not try and redo the same show. That's probably one of the reasons why, right now, a sequel or picking up any of the other characters doesn't make sense for us."
WHOMP!
But hey, at least we have the prequels to look forward to, even if Bloys is being tight-lipped about them. "We're shooting the pilot in June, you can do the math and figure out when it would be on the air," he said. "What I'm not doing is working backwards by saying, ‘This has to be on the air by this date.' We want to do the best show possible. This is a pilot, so we're doing it the old-fashioned way, which is shooting a pilot. My expectation is it will be great and we'll move forward and it'll move along on a regular TV timetable. I don't want to speculate any dates."
Maybe this time they'll find writers that don't warrant fans to start a petition asking HBO to remake a whole season.
