An Entire Community Is Rallying Around This Injured Maine 2-Year-Old
This is...something I could never imagine and hope you or I never have to go through, and my heart legitimately aches for this family, because this is...wow.
Over the weekend, there was a very tragic and unfortunate incident involving a 2-year-old Waterville, Maine boy named Evan Hood. According to Channel 8 WMTW, little Evan was unfortunately accidentally shot in the head by one of his siblings. Miraculously and thankfully, Evan survived the incident. In fact, Evan is such a savage, strong little guy that he made it through his surgery at Maine Medical Center.
That said, even the most tough little guys can have a long road ahead of them when recovering from an injury, and it's no different for Evan. But this is where us New Englanders are at our best. This is where we come together, regardless of what we have going on in our own personal lives, and we make sure that we look out for others when they need us to.
A family friend of the Hood family, named Kristina, has organized a GoFundMe page to help them with their extensive medical bills that they'll be facing not only from the surgery Evan just went through, but also with the costs that will come from his recovery. In just over a day's time of the page being organized, almost the entirety of the $10,000 goal was raised.
From all accounts, especially from their friend Kristina that set up the GoFundMe page, if there is any family that deserves this help, it's the Hood family, as she told Channel 8 WMTW that the Hood's are "always there for everybody, always willing to help, they're just good people."
I can't fathom what the Hood family is going through right now. Hopefully, someday way down the line, they'll be able to look back at this incident and not laugh, since it's not a laughing matter, but pinpoint it to the exact moment when their family actually came closer together. In the same way the Waterville community (and beyond) is rallying around the entire family right now.
Keep kicking recovery's behind, little Evan! All of the thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes go out to Evan and his parents and two older brothers. You all will get through this, be stronger for it, and realize you have a bunch of people who support you that you didn't even realize were there.
