A replica of the Santa Maria, the largest of the the three ships that Christopher Columbus used to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, will be making two stops in Maine in September.

The 161 foot long Nao Santa Maria was built in 2017 and is currently on a North American tour, set to make stops on the east coast including Boothbay Harbor and Portland. This ship is big, as it rises 30 feet above the water with its tallest of three masts reaching 80 feet.

No one knows exactly what the Santa Maria looked like since its wreckage has never been found and there are no documents giving specifications of the ship, so replica ships have had to make some guesses on it's appearance, but the final product is still pretty amazing.

You can see this amazing ship when it docks in Portland September 19 to 22 and in Boothbay Harbor September 25 to 29. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 5 to 10. A family group of two adults and up to 3 kids from 5 to 10 is only $25.

You'll go on a self-guided tour of all 5 decks of the ship and you can talk with crew. We've got a ticket link at the bottom of the page.
