A Local Fifth Grader Writes Us About Unity Day
It's not too often that we get handwritten letters these days. So when we do, it certainly gets our attention. Last week, we received a letter in the mail from Jacob Johnson, a fifth grader at Harrison Lyseth Elementary School in Portland. He wanted to know if we would help to support Unity Day, by hanging up a poster in our studio. I emailed his teacher and said that we would be delighted to, and that we would also go even further to help, by talking about it on the air. Unity Day, October 24th, is a day for people to come together and stand up against bullying. Sadly, so many of us have been a victim of bullying at least once in our lives. According to pacer.org, Unity Day "becomes a conversation starter, sending the supportive, universal message that bullying is never acceptable behavior.” 94.9 HOM and the HOM Morning Show fully supports Unity Day, and we admire students like Jacob, who are helping to spread the word!
