It seems that everywhere you turn these days there is some kind of a worker shortage. Whether it's warehouse staff, bus drivers or local police officers, employers are struggling to find and retain quality workers.

One agency that's going above and beyond to find qualified applicants is the city of Gardiner Police Department.

According to the Kennebec Journal, the department is currently offering a massive $15,000 hiring bonus for experienced officers.

From what we can tell, the bonus seems to be the largest of its kind for police in the area. Though not paid all at once, the $15,000 is paid out over the course of three years.

As the department is slated to lose five officers this years alone, the department is surviving on a short staff that is working several overtime shifts per week.

Gardiner Police Chief, James Toman, told Gardiner City Councilors, “My staff is getting extremely tired doing the stressful and dangerous job they are doing”.
