Growing up in Maine, one of my absolute favorite things to do was to go pick fiddleheads with my Grandfather. Now if you don't know what a fiddle head is, it's a baby fern that hasn't uncoiled yet thus taking the shape of the head of a fiddle. Hence... the name, fiddleheads.

These delicious little baby ferns were a staple in our diet growing up and since the window in which to get them was so short (just a few weeks) it was an event to go and pick them.

Boil them and serve with some butter, salt and a side of meat and potatoes (yeah I'm from the county lol) and you've got my favorite meal.

So if you're looking for something new to try this spring, or if you're like me and already love them, be on the lookout for these yummy weeds!
