Willard Beach: South Portland Gem [Photos]

We have some wonderful little beaches in Maine.  One of the more popular beaches for families with children is Willard Beach in South Portland.  The view of islands, forts and fishing shacks adds to the interest.

Willard Beach has a play ground area for the kids.  Dogs are welcome from 7 to 9 a.m. during the summer months.  High tide is the best time for swimming.  Seaweed is exposed at low tide and is not optimal for taking a dip.  It's a great place to walk and explore. It's an easy walk to Spring Point. The amazing Fort Gorges and Fort Scammell can be viewed from the beach. You can watch the marine traffic traveling from Portland Harbor.  There's also free parking in a lot easily accessible to the beach.
