Wet Seal Is Closing 171 Of Their Mall Stores Due To Struggling Sales
I'm so sad @wetseal and @wetsealplus are going to be gone forever. With the new location opening in the Irvine Spectrum I truly thought the seal had come back from the dark side…. and I can't help but feel a sense of loss for the company who started my modeling journey and was a pivotal part of shopping in my hs career with both the seal and contempo casuals. I learned so much and was able to help with trend during my time with the company. Stores are currently liquidating their stock and my heart hurts to see those signs. I cried when the plus stores closed their doors the beginning of January 2015, as I felt like something so important that we needed couldn't just go away- or be online only. When my job was cut during the regroup I watched people complain the fit wasn't the same, and recently there was talks of me coming back. It's just sad it's too late. I'm so heartbroken. If you want to pay your final visit, move quickly and bring kleenex. I'm still glad I had the opportunities I did to meet people and work with people I've known since childhood, I miss and love you all- @ashley.linn @rishalicious @kfnla @cup_kayke @blytherashalle @camerong83 @kisatchy #savetheseal #wetseal #wetsealplus #wsonme #plussizemodel #plussizefitmodel #neverforgetwhereyoucamefrom #sad #depressed #loss #fitmodel #beginnings #contempocasuals #model #curvemodel #shopaholic
Wet Seal is one of those stores that I probably should have stopped shopping at when I graduated high school, but it never happened.
You could always count on Wet Seal for a quick going out shirt on the cheap! And where am I supposed to get my 4 dollar leggings now?
Business Insider reported this sad news that Versa Capital (who acquired the brand in 2015) couldn’t raise enough funds or find a buyer to keep the brand alive.
The decrease in foot traffic at malls is definitely a big contributer to this closing. Wet Seal isn’t the only retailer suffering. The Limited shut down all 250 of its stores recently, and Macy’s and Sears also announced mass store closures.
I hope all of those people who lost their jobs due to these abrupt closures find something new and get back on their feet soon.
