You've seen the warnings and you've likely heard the horror stories. Distracted driving is a major problem in every state across the country and Maine may finally be cracking down. According to WCSH-6, the Maine Legislature has officially passed a bill making usage of all handheld devices in automobiles illegal.

The bill will still need to be enacted to become law, but if it does, Maine will become only the 15th state in the country that will force drivers to go device-free. If the bill does become law, even holding your cellular phone talking while driving would be against the law and could result in a fine.

Several years back, New Hampshire became one of the nation's first states to ban handheld devices while driving.
