I asked on Facebook, where is the best burger in Maine. There were a lot of opinions, but their was a clear winner...

1. RAPID RAY'S

Rapid Ray's has been the late night gathering spot in southern Maine for over 50 years! It all started back in 1953 when Renald "Ray" Camire started selling hamburgers out of an old bread truck. Since then, two more generations of the Camire family have worked the grills late into the night to continue Ray's vision of providing quick, delicious and fresh food.

I have never been. That will soon change!

2. ELEVATION BURGER

I must say, I have had an Elevation Burger..it was damn good! Plus, I'm a fan of their philosophy:

Our vision is to be more than just a burger restaurant. It’s a vision for offering authentic and sustainably prepared food that’s better for you and the environment. From fresh and flavorful food made of the highest quality ingredients to friendly and inviting restaurants built with sustainable materials, we strive to deliver an elevated experience that is ABOVE AND BEYOND GOOD.

3. FAT GUYS CONCESSION

These guys are at fairs and are seasonal. I have had the pleasure of eating at these guys when they were at the Cumberland Fair. It was amazing. They will be opening soon...so, hope for an easy mud season and these guys will open even sooner!

4. FIVE GUYS BURGER AND FRIES

Oh, I'm a fan. I don't do burgers a lot, or I'd weigh as much as five guys! But I have eaten at this Old Port staple..uh, several times. I agree with their placement in this poll. Good..not the best, but very good. I like the peanuts too!

5. ROSIE'S

I love Rosie's. Of all the places mentioned, I've probably been here the most. I love their food and the atmosphere. It's just a fun place. It's casual and very Portland.

There were some honorable mentions:

  • Monsweag Roadhouse in Woolwich
  • Harmon's in Falmouth
  • Thurston's
  • Fat Boys

and my favorite, 'My house.'

Unless you plan on cooking me a burger anytime I want one, I can't count that.
