I'll say that Mainers probably dress their pets for Halloween more infrequently than other states, but we are not completely immune. I have a friend who went to a full-press pet Halloween party this weekend, and it was crazy how much time and money went into some of the pet costumes.

Wise Brother Media did a survey, and here are the results for the most popular pet costumes of 2017:

  1. Pumpkin
  2. Hot Dog
  3. Dog - maybe for a cat?
  4. Lion
  5. Pirate
  6. Bumblebee
  7. Devil
  8. A "Batman" character
  9. Ghost
  10. Cat - maybe for a dog?

Okay, none of these are stunning or clever. Personally, when my dogs were young and crazy, I dressed them up as a belly dancer and a sunflower. Mark let me do that for only one Halloween because I was pregnant. Then he put his Taurus foot down and said, "Never again! They are humiliated!" I argued that they felt pretty, but he wasn't buying it. Now, they stare longingly at other neighborhood dogs who show up dressed as a cop or a taco.
