This week marks 82 years since the historic event.

You may have heard about the record breaking wind recorded at the summit of Mount Washington back in April of 1934. But have you heard the full story?

The record stood for nearly 62 years, until it was broken in 1996 by an unmanned station in Australia. Mt. Washington still holds the record for strongest wind witness by man.

The Observatory workers in 1934 went to great lengths to ensure the that the wind measurement was accurate. They had to consider things like timing, the method, the stopwatch, and the calibration curve.
