The City Of Portland Wants To Put Panhandlers To Work. Here’s How.
Portland has begun a pilot program called Portland Opportunity Crew offering panhandlers minimum wage of $10.68 an hour to help clean up the city’s parks and other public areas. Two days a week, up to five people who are panhandling will be offered the chance to work. The city is also partnering with Workforce Solutions and People Ready to connect participants with more job opportunities and job training after working with the program.
