Have you ever been aboard a historic schooner? Portland Schooner Company welcomes guests aboard their two antique schooners for sails around Casco Bay. It's a unique way to see the city and the perfect idea for a group event or outing.

One of the schooners available for charters is the Wendameen. The Wendameen is a "storied wooden schooner built in the early 20th century". Wendameen is on the National Register of Historic Places. The registration form for this 49 passenger vessel says:

Constructed in 1912 for Connecticut businessman Chester W. Bliss, the two-masted Yacht Wendameen is a vessel now employed in the coastwise passenger excursion business. Designed by the nationally-noted naval architect John G. Alden and built by the Adams Shipbuilding company of East Boothbay, she is considered to be one of the earliest and best surviving examples of her design.

I experienced the Wendameen for the first time at a bachelorette party a few weeks ago. The deckhands and captain were friendly and fun. They even allowed passengers to help raise the sails as we got underway.
