You guessed it! The Holy Donut in Portland, Maine made the Thrillest list of the best 31 donut shops in America. The (not so) secret ingredient? Fresh potatoes from Maine.

The Holy Donut makes its donuts and other pastries from scratch, using as many local ingredients as possible, according to its website. There are three locations in Maine -- on Park Avenue, Exchange Street in the Old Port and Route 1 in Scarborough.

I haven't met anyone who doesn't like Holy Donuts. The shop has sent their world-famous (at least in the U.S.) donuts to our radio company several times; however, I have yet to try one. I'm beginning to think it's a conspiracy… to keep me away from these delicious donuts. My rite of passage to life in Maine won't be complete until I've tasted a donut made from mashed potatoes.

One of these days, I'll find the holy grail of desserts… The Holy Donut.
