Yesterday my mom sent me two texts messages that totally shocked me.

I had heard about the plane crash involving a Canadian man returning home from Florida, but had no idea that the crash happened right across the street from my parents home in Houlton on White Settlement Road.

Growing up the house my parents live in now was my grandfathers house and the man made pond was just a field. In recent years friends built a cabin and created the pond you see pictured above. You can actually see my parents house in the upper left corner of the picture.

According to reports from WCSH6 the missing plane was recovered as well as the body of the pilot who did not survive the crash.

The twin engine plane was flying from Labrador to Florida, police say, and had been expected to land at the airport for a customs inspection about 1 a.m.The plane missed the roof of a woman's house by just a few feet, clipping the tops of nearby trees as it went down.

“I couldn't believe it. I just couldn't believe it. You know what I mean? Nothing like this has ever happened here before,” said Nancy Knights who lives in the house.

I am certainly grateful no one else was hurt in this tragic accident, but my heart goes out to the family and friends of the pilot.
