The Secret Life of Bees author Sue Monk Kidd is back with a sure to be bestselling novel, The Invention of Wings. Oprah has already added it to her book club list.

The Invention of Wings tells the stories of Sarah Grimke, one of the first female abolitionists, and Hetty “Handful” Grimke, Sarah’s enslaved handmaid. Handful yearns for a life beyond the suffocating walls of slavery even as Sarah does what she can to lessen her burdens. Sarah knows she is meant to do something large in the world, but is hemmed in by the limitations placed on women. Both Sarah and Handful try to find freedom wherever they can. The historical novel is based on the little known Grimke sisters. To meet Sue in person, she'll be doing a signing at the South Portland Books-A-Million on Friday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m.
