New Service Offered By The Post Office Could Put Your Mail At Risk

It sounds like the United States Postal Service had the best of intentions when rolling out Informed Delivery, their new service that gives you notice when you're about to receive mail. But apparently, it could end up putting your mail at even greater risk. Informed Delivery allows you to digitally preview your mail and manage your packages scheduled to arrive soon. It lets you view greyscale images of the exterior, address side of letter-sized mailpieces and track packages in one convenient location. Sounds pretty great, right? Well, what if a mail thief signs up to receive notifications about your mail before you do? According to WGME, cybersecurity experts feel that it's possible. In theory, the could sign up for the service with your name and address, but with their email address. Then, they would receive notifications about your mail, and would know when it's coming, making it easy for them to steal from you! So what should you do? Cybersecurity experts recommend that you sign up for Informed Delivery for your mail now, before someone else does.
